Mapbox Geocoding adds 45 new countries and 73.2 million addresses

More global coverage for street-level address data

Over the past year, Mapbox Geocoding has expanded street-level address coverage to forty-five additional countries, adding 73.2 million new addresses across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Updates add address-level data to new countries including Türkiye, Bahrain, Guadeloupe, and Taiwan, while also improving depth to existing coverage in places like Ireland, Greece, and Malta. The result is more consistent behavior and coverage across regions, and a streamlined developer experience when building with Mapbox Geocoding services.

Expanded geocoding coverage simplifies scaling

Geocoding can feel straightforward when working within a single country. Once the scope of an application or business expands, challenges start to appear. Address formats vary widely. Some countries follow structured postal systems, while others rely on less formal conventions. In some areas, buildings may not have clear numbering, or addresses may not map cleanly to a single point.

Differences between address systems often create gaps in coverage or inconsistent results within an application. Developers might try to introduce fallback providers, custom parsing logic, or region-specific handling but over time this increases complexity and makes systems harder to maintain.

With expanded coverage, Mapbox Geocoding offers a stronger baseline for applications serving regional or global audiences. Developers can rely on more consistent address data across more countries, reducing the need for custom workarounds or multiple providers. The goal is a streamlined geocoding system that can deploy across regions with few to no custom adjustments, yielding predictable address search behavior and reverse geocoding results that are easier to store and reuse. Simpler infrastructure with fewer edge cases means more scalable applications as companies grow across markets.

Adding building entrances to geocoding

Alongside expanded coverage, Mapbox recently introduced entrance data to the Geocoding API. The Mapbox Geocoding API now returns specific building entrance location data, enabling better routing for and visualization of door locations. The initial public preview release covers entrance door locations for over 100 million addresses in the United States.

Standard geocoding typically returns a rooftop point for an address, often representing the center of a building or parcel. While appropriate for many use cases, in the context of deliveries or service calls a specific entrance location is preferable.

The Mapbox Geocoding API response returns both the entrance location data and rooftop coordinates for an address. Depending on use case, companies using Mapbox geocoding can choose which result to use. To test the entrance data in action, enable entrances in the geocoding playground (for US addresses).

Geocoding is a foundational input to location-aware operations

Geocoding supports a wide range of use cases, many of which operate behind the scenes. In logistics and fleet management, it converts raw coordinates into addresses that teams can understand and act on. In retail and e-commerce, it supports address entry, address standardization, and delivery workflows. In travel and booking platforms, it connects listings to precise map locations.

Tripadvisor uses the Mapbox Geocoding API to maintain accurate latitude and longitude data across its global database. When users search for hotels or restaurants, the map location needs to match the actual place. Even small differences can affect trust.

We wanted to make it effortless for anyone to add a new business to Tripadvisor. Mapbox Search Box and Geocoding helped us do just that, simplifying the process and ensuring we get accurate location data into our system quickly and easily. - Jeremy Frisch, Product Lead, Places & Maps, Tripadvisor

LandscaperNow offers a different perspective, focused on property-based booking. The platform depends on users being able to find and select locations quickly. After adopting Mapbox Geocoding, LandscaperNow has seen a dramatic improvement in the customer experience of the initial quote process.

We measure success by how much smoother the property lookup experience has become. With Mapbox, we reduced lookup time by about 71%, and we’re seeing more users actively engage with address entry. The biggest difference is that people spend less time struggling with input and can move through that first step much more quickly and confidently. -  Luis Medina, founder, LandscaperNow
