Location services in automotive was a hot topic at CES 2023 — in terms of the sheer number of location-based experiences featured, the level of investment from automakers, and conversations happening around in-vehicle digital experiences.
A lot of buzz was centered around the importance of location and how it is powering some of the coolest experiences inside of a car. One of our biggest takeaways: Maps can help you get users to pull up their mobile phone less by drawing their attention with rich in-vehicle digital experiences that have real-world context while they drive and allow a more engaging user experience to happen on top of that.
In addition to conducting many one-on-one meetings with our customers to show them new Mapbox products like Mapbox 3D and Mapbox for EV, we had the opportunity to hit the show floor and see how location intelligence is powering a variety of auto manufacturing customers, as well as others.
Garmin unveiled its Unified Cabin Experience
Mapbox Dash enabled Garmin to accelerate the delivery of the Garmin Unified Cabin Experience demo in a fraction of the time. Mapbox Dash combines the company’s strengths in navigation, search and visualization, including AI and traffic data. This integration provides beautifully rendered and easily customizable interactive maps across all five displays of the system.
Project Arrow “Canada’s Car” prototype debut
The prototype, a collaboration of more than 50 Canadian companies, showed that Canada is a global player in the auto-tech industry.

The company has tapped into the power of location intelligence to support rural areas. The result is more accurate, hyperlocal weather updates to rural areas and a decreased reliance on nearby, urban data sets that don’t precisely tell the weather story of smaller localities.
