Introducing Maptober, a fun and friendly way to work with Mapbox vector tiles and MTS through a series of webinars and technical challenges.  We will share  beginner-friendly training content for anyone to learn how to transform geospatial data into vector tiles with Mapbox Tiling Service (MTS) and to style your data using Mapbox Studio. Follow the challenge from October 21 - November 4th to learn alongside our team and to be entered into a weekly raffle to win prizes!

Join us for the Maptober webinar series!

Oct 21, 2021- Working with Mapbox Vector Tiles

Mapbox vector tiles optimize delivery of large amounts of geographic data to power mapping applications in a scalable and cost effective way. In this episode, we’ll break down what Tiles are and the advantages of working with vector tiles. In addition, we will help you understand how and when to tile data. Lastly, we’ll demonstrate how to generate tiles with our new beta user interface for MTS built into Mapbox Studio.

Oct 28, 2021- Creating Vector Tiles with MTS

Mapbox Tiling Service (MTS) is a powerful service for creating custom vector tilesets. With MTS users can control the visual design, data hierarchy, and performance of your tilesets. In this episode, you’ll learn how to use the MTS command line interface (CLI) to generate a tileset using a sample dataset on wildfires. The tutorial will also demonstrate how to modify recipes to customize and update the tileset, as well as how to optimize usage to reduce costs.

Nov 4, 2021- Creating an interactive web map with custom data

Transform your data into a compelling visualization with Mapbox Studio. Follow along as we demonstrate how to leverage Mapbox Studio to style vector tilesets generated with MTS. Learn how to use Mapbox Studio to build and design a map to match your brand or use-case by working with feature components to tweak our core styles and using expressions to style custom data. We’ll end this webinar by showing you how to add your style and data to a web map with basic interactivity.

Participate in the challenge for a chance to win!

Each week, we’ll run a raffle to give away $100 and Mapbox swag for folks that sign up for that week’s technical challenge. You’ll be able to submit by posting on social and tagging @Mapbox with the hashtag #maptober, or submitting an entry for any of the webinar challenges. Read more in the Maptober Challenge Website.

If you have any questions or difficulties about submitting your entry, please email maptober@mapbox.com.
