We are excited to announce that Peter Sirota will take over as CEO of Mapbox. Ten years after founding and running Mapbox, Eric Gundersen is transitioning to Chair of the Mapbox Board and Chief Strategy Officer. Over the last 3 years, Peter has operated across all teams and his contribution is intensely visible in Mapbox’s unique culture, organizational structure, innovation and products we’ve built, the way these products are sold and the business outcomes. 

Today, Mapbox is a unique asset. We own both the software platform and the map content, have the developer relationships, the direct engagement with hundreds of millions of monthly active users and usage data, the technology infrastructure for live updating maps based on anonymous user data, the financial strength, the team, and the determination to extend our leadership and to build an enduring company—and we execute daily on all of this by putting the developer first. 

Eric will continue to be deeply involved in both product and business strategy as our Chief Strategy Officer, all to better drive developer-centric progress. He’ll own key strategic initiatives, partner closely with Service orgs, spend more time with customers and maximize market impact of new product development. 

2021 is the year when we make the boldest decisions yet. Our goal is to extend our current position by pursuing mapping opportunities in other areas and expanding further into logistics and automotive, which require serious investment and crisp execution against established leaders. It is a year of tremendous scale for our business and team. We could not be more thrilled to see both Eric and Peter step into these new roles.
