Glossary: Geocoding API

Geocoding is the process of taking an address like “Chicago, IL” and converting it into latitude and longitude values. Geocoding can also work the other way around, where latitude and longitude values are converted into a text address - this is called reverse geocoding.

We offer a Gecoding API that supports forward and reverse geocoding of street addresses, cities, neighborhoods, and zip codes.

For more detail on which countries we support, check out the developer documentation.

We’re working on growing our geocoding support every day. If you’re aware of open data for countries not listed, get involved by contributing to OpenAddresses
