Join us at Open Belgium
We'll be at Open Belgium to contribute to the Open Communities, Smart Society discussion. Christina Franken, our project lead for the Smart Cities team, will be speaking at 14:00 from the Salle Bruyère room about traffic safety and how Mapbox answers tough questions with open data. Christina will discuss how we built a model that identifies which high-risk areas should be the focus of a cities' traffic safety efforts. Learn how we worked directly with city government in Washington, DC and with various open datasets from multiple transportation stakeholders. She'll share the successes and failures of our approach, with the ultimate goal of speeding up how we solve common urban issues across the globe by distributing (open) data-driven local solutions as open source tools.
Mapbox for Open Cities
Open source is a valuable tool that can help city governments scale and share learnings and solutions with other cities. It offers a platform not only to share between cities but also for civic innovators and engaged citizens to contribute to their city’s efforts. Local governments can adapt an open source tool to match their needs on a project, such as varying data sources or performance metrics. Collaborating with other cities on open source reduces the overhead cost on the initial development costs for cities each time the tool is replicated. Mapbox proudly embraces our open-source roots. We work in the open and release as much code as possible. We believe it’s the right thing for people, technology, and business.
