Tonight’s Geo DC meetup will look at the strategies and techniques around mapping slums and undocumented areas to provide residents with a tangible record of their properties and aid international development. The meetup will start at 7:00 pm tonight (February 1) at Stetson’s.

There are four fantastic presentations on the lineup:

  • Mikel Maron will talk about his work with GroundTruth mapping Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, East Jerusalem, and Cite Soleil.
  • Brian English from CHF International will talk about his work mapping slums in India and Ghana. Watch his ignite talk for a preview.
  • Josh Goldstein from the World Bank will talk about his work mapping Dar es Salam.
  • Christoph Koettl from Amnesty International will discuss his work mapping slums in Chad.

So far an incredible 110+ people have RSVPed for the meetup - which would make this the largest Geo DC gathering yet. If you plan to attend, come early to grab a drink and plan on meeting some new folks.

The next Geo DC meetup will be on Wednesday, March 7. For updates from the group, join the meetup group and follow @geo_dc on Twitter.
