We just finished our building tracing sprint, adding 173,447 building polygons on the San Francisco Peninsula. Together with our 2014 San Francisco building sprint this brings us to a total of 325,454 new building outlines in this area on OpenStreetMap.

In total, over 20 people worked for 2 months time on this effort. We coordinated the mapping effort in the open on Github for anyone to contribute and local mappers joined us there. The animations shows all buildings added on OpenStreetMap since 2014 including our team’s edits.

Getting started mapping on OpenStreetMap is really easy, read up on how to get on the map yourself.
