At tonight’s GeoDC meetup, we will demo the new custom styles we released yesterday for our MapBox Streets world base map. This new feature allows you to choose from 12 different map styles and change the colors of land, water, areas, and streets on your map via a color switcher. It brings an new level of design flexibility to our world maps, and we’re already seeing some fun examples of it in action like this neon map of bike path’s in Portland.
There are two other interesting lightning talks on the schedule:
William Hurley from Forum One will talk about the County Health Rankings map that was just launched, specifically touching on how it’s rendering dynamic tiles with Mapnik and Tilelive.
Kevin Webb of OpenPlans will talk about OpenTripPlanner, how it works, and its transit analysis extensions.
The meetup starts at 7:00 pm, with presentations kicking off at 7:30 pm, at the upstairs bar at Stetson’s at the intersection of 16th and U Streets NW.
The GeoDC meetups draw a vibrant crowd of people interested in and working with maps, data collection, GIS, and other related technologies. The group meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month. Join the meetup group and follow @geo_dc on Twitter for updates.
