The #Ferguson hashtag on Twitter publicized the militarized police reaction in Ferguson, Missouri to the protests after the shooting of Mike Brown by police officer Darren Wilson. Our map shows where local people are using the #Ferguson hashtag, and where others have traveled from to take part in or report on the protests.

We collected all the geotagged tweets mentioning Ferguson from August 9th through 18th from the public Twitter stream. To determine travel, we looked at previous locations where the same people had tweeted in June or July, and considered a person to have traveled if their previous tweet was more than 7 miles away.
